Periodontal disease is a disease in the gums that is affecting the tissues and bones that anchors and supports the teeth to the gums. Gum destruction, receding gums are the eventual results of the damaging gum infections that were failed to be treated. It is seen that periodontal disease is actually a chronic inflammatory disease which may occur with acute infection of the periodontal tissues. The disease can start to set in once the person lacks proper oral hygiene, allowing sticky plaque filled with bacteria to build up and harden on the teeth as tartar. Periodontal disease can be contributed by your diet, medications, other health conditions and unhealthy habits like smoking and tobacco use. Yet, harmful bacteria is the foremost reason for periodontal disease to develop. It is important to have good dental care habits, have proper diet and to have healthy lifestyle to avoid certain disease as we grow old.
