Is Harley Davidson Iron 883 a good starter bike?
Clay Nicolsen: NO, they are not good bikes for beginners, and here’s why:
- They weigh 575 pounds. That is very, very heavy for a first bike. Your friend is smart to be worried about it.
- Although they are slow by sport bike standards, they can still easily exceed 100 mph.
- Since so many riders buy them because they are an inexpensive way to get into the Harley line, they usually do not have ABS. If possible, a beginner’s bike should have ABS. Hell, every bike should have ABS.
- Most Sportster buyers will not put an engine guard on the bike, because it doesn’t look cool. Then, when you drop the bike at a stop light or in a parking lot, and you probable will, it’s going to be expensive.
Is the 883 a woman’s bike?
Bob Barbanes: Among the Harley community, the Sportster is generally and derogatorily called a “girl’s bike” because it’s the smallest of the three Harley engine families: Sportster; “Big Twin” and V-Rod. And indeed, a lot of the women who buy Harleys do ride Sportsters. In light of this, many guys who are insecure about the size of their penis would never be caught dead on one. I don’t have that issue.
How fast is a Harley Iron 883?
Top Speed: 105 mph (Est.)
Are Harley 883 reliable?
Drac Smith: I saw an 883 pushed to 225,000+ miles. The odemeter stopped working around 200,000 miles. So whether it was 230 or 250 was anybody’s guess. Not a well taken care of 200,000 miles either. It was passed from one club member to another.
How much horsepower does the Iron 883 have?
The Iron 883 gets a good looking V-twin engine with a displacement of 883cc. The V-twin is air-cooled and brings along with it the classic Harley sound. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The engine makes 49 hp and 54 lb-ft of torque.
